Help Students Make History: Become a History Fair Judge

The Chicago Metro History Fair invites you to serve as a judge at a 2018 History Fair event. As a judge, you will evaluate historical research projects—documentaries, performances, exhibits, websites, or research papers on topics related to Chicago history—produced by local students in grades 6-8 or 9-12. Judging is a stimulating experience as you also learn more about Chicago history through the eyes of youths.

Register online or download a print registration form.

No previous experience or specialized degree in history or education are necessary. On the day of the History Fair event, you will receive a full orientation and each new History Fair judge will be paired with an experienced judge.

The History Fair needs 500 volunteer judges each year to see the wonderful work of Chicago area students. Please see the many judging opportunities that are available and select the session that works best for you. Every judge counts because every student counts.

  • The weekend event dates for 2018 are February 24, March 3, and April 7.
  • The High School Metro Finals will be held on April 12.
  • Weekday or evening sessions are available for judging papers in March and April. Website judges are sent URLs to judge and talk with their partner judges over the phone.
