Support Student Achievement by Judging Their History ProjectsAre you interested in helping young people to meet the challenges of historical research and to experience the satisfaction of academic accomplishment? If you want to be part of a "good news" educational program that has inspired Chicago area students for almost two decades, we invite you to be a History Fair judge. A program of the Chicago Metro History Education Center, the History Fair is a vital component of history education for students in grades 6-12 from schools in Cook, Lake and DuPage counties. The program promotes the study of history and encourages the development of reading, writing, research, organizational and critical thinking skills. Students create essays, exhibits or performances on topics in family, community, and Illinois history which are judged by volunteers who come from all sectors of the community.
As a volunteer judge, you will have an opportunity to see first-hand the impressive and creative accomplishments of young students. You do not need to have a Ph.D. to judge at this event! All we ask is that you have an interest in the education of our young student historians. We will conduct a brief judges’ orientation prior to each judging session and team novice judges with veteran judges. Find a judging opportunity that best fits your schedule and complete the online Volunteer Judges Registration Form. If you prefer, download the 2010 JUDGES VOLUNTEER FORM and FAX it back to us at 312-266-8223.
