Each year over 20,000 students in grades 6-12 embark on a research journey through Chicago history called the Chicago Metro History Fair. We invite you to help make history happen for all of Chicago’s young historians by participating in the 2nd annual “Hike for History” benefit walk.
The Hike for History brings together History Fair students, alumni, teachers, parents, judges, and community members who want to support the Chicago Metro History Fair and discover Chicago history. Walkers will have an opportunity to tour historical interest points in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood and the University of Chicago, and raise funds to make the History Fair possible. At approximately 5k (3 miles) in distance, the Hike is manageable for all!
How Can I Help?
The Chicago Metro History Education Center has set up an Active Giving online registration/donation center. This site offers more information about the event and presents a secure and easy way for walkers and donors to sign up or contribute.
Celebrating 30 Years…
The Hike for History celebrates 30 years of the History Fair. Since 1977, hundreds of thousands of students, teachers, and community members have discovered local history through the Chicago Metro History Fair. Our thanks and congratulations go out to all of the students, teachers, and community members who have made this milestone possible.

When you register through Active Giving, you will receive a confirmation email with further details about the Hike for History. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact the Chicago Metro History Education Center at 312.255.3661.
